SIES Monthly Letter

            This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Joint Industry Board Balcony Lounge in Queens. Meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be served. Business Representative Benjamin Arana will report on what is happening in our industry.  President Antonio Abreu will give his monthly report.             

THIS MONTH’S MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE JOINT INDUSTRY BOARD BALCONY LOUNGE.

            The Installation of Officers ceremony will be held at this months meeting.  Please try to attend and show your support.

                Our 5th Annual Blood Drive will be held at the S.I.E.S April meeting.  We urge everyone to become a donor.  Help your city keep up with the demand for blood and save a life.  For more Info: see Eddie Napoleoni.  We thank you in advance for your support. 

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THERE ARE TWO IMPORTANT ELECTIONS WITHIN LOCAL UNION #3 IN THE MONTH OF MAY 2011.  ELECTION OF ELECTION BOARD MAY 5, 2011 AT THE J.I.B 4:30PM –ELECTION OF LOCAL UNION #3 OFFICERS MAY 21, 2011 AT THE JACOB K JAVITS COVENTION CENTER 6AM TO 4PM,  MORE INFO AT THIS MONTHS MEETING.

              The 2011 Annual Club Dues are due.   This year the annual fee will remain at $30.   Please make checks and money orders payable to Santiago Iglesias Educational Society.   Thank you for your support.                                              

              The S.I.E.S is setting up a group outing to an off Broadway play. If anyone is interested in attending, please see flyer on back.

Street Fair:
The Sword of Light will be Marching from 161st street to Harry Van Arsdale Jr Avenue and back to the Monument ( The Rock) at 11:00 am  to honor the memory of the late great union leader Harry Van Arsdale Jr.

There will be an "early bird" special from 10:00 am to 12:00 ( all rides 1 ticket )

We are encouraging all our members to bring your family out to enjoy the festivities which include games , rides, petting zoo, food bazaar, raffles, antique car show and flea market..

We also need volunteers to help with the setup and running of this event. If you can

May's Monthly Meeting

MEETING LOCATION 

            This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the UFT Headquarters, 2500 Halsey Street in the Bronx. Meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be served. Business Representative Benjamin Arana will report on what is happening in our industry.  President Antonio Abreu will give his monthly report. Our guest speakers will be Local 3 Apprentice Director George K. Schuck and Edwin Napoleoni, member of the 2010 A Construction Contract negotiating committee.

              The S.I.E.S 4TH ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE will be held at this months meeting.  The drive will start at 3pm and end at 7pm.  The New York Mets will be co-sponsoring this blood drive. Every eligible blood donor will receive 2 tickets to a Mets game at Citifield. Please, come and show your support.   

              This year our annual family retreat at Santorini will be held on August 20th to the 22nd.  There will be more information at this upcoming meeting. 

              The Electchester Street Fair will be held on Sunday June 6, 2010 in Flushing Queens.  We will be looking for volunteers to help out that day. More information will be given at this months meeting. Please come and show your support, thank you. 

              The S.I.E.S Annual Family Day is scheduled to be held at the Richmond County Bank Ball Park. This is home of the Staten Island Yankees. For more Information please see flyer on back.  

              The Jose Lopez Scholarship Award Applications will be available at this months meeting.

              The 2010 Annual Club Dues are due. Cosmo Soltren Passing:

Cosmo Soltren Passed Away This Morning
(Monday March 22, 2010)

"We are deeply saddened at Cosmos passing this morning. Cosmo will always be remembered for his love and commitment to his sons and family. He was a great asset to Local #3 and to the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society. He will always be remembered for the courage and strength he showed over the past years and is an inspiration to us all. Our prayers go out to his three sons and his family. May he Rest in Peace.

Our guest speakers will be Local 3 Apprentice Director George K. Schuck, Joel Fena, the Mortgage Specialist from Bank of America and The Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

              The Fourth Annual Tim Dann Community Service Award is being presented at this months meeting. We would like to congratulate the lucky winner Alexis Restrepo. Please join us for this special ceremony.      

IMPORTANT REMINDERS    

             All tickets for the annual play (Platanos and Collard Greens) have been sold out. We purchased 90 tickets for the March 27th showing, unfortunately we cannot acquire anymore.  For the members who were lucky enough to reserve them please see Joseph Raposo for tickets and payment.  All checks and money orders must be made out to Santiago Iglesias Educational Society.  Thank You.

              Just as a reminder, our annual blood drive will be held during our April meeting. For more info: please see Edwin Napoleoni.

            It’s that time again for the Local 3 I.B.E.W union dues.  Please mail out your check to the Local for $193.00 before April 1st.   

             To all members that are unemployed or on furlough and would like to donate some time. The Bronx office is looking for volunteers on any Friday from March to the end of April to survey jobs in the Bronx. The assignment will start at 9am and end around 12 pm.
